THE CHALLENGE & OPPORTUNITY: Lead the launch of our Elementary Schools ProgramAcross the nation, only half of all students from low-income communitiesí graduate from high school and only 10% earn a college degree. Even though 84% of their students are economically disadvantaged, YES Prep provides evidence that different outcomes are possible. Ninety-four (94%) of YES Prep alumni matriculate to college within one year and alumni like Eddie Zapata are earning their college degrees at four times the rate of their peers with similar socioeconomic backgrounds. How do they do this? Each of YES Prepís 18 campuses serves 6th-12th graders like Monique Bowie. Students typically enter YES Prep one or more grade levels behind but quickly find themselves on a different life trajectory as a result of transformative relationships with teachers and leaders and access to excellent educational opportunities.

As the first minority-majority city, Houstonís schools cannot keep up with demand from students like Eddie and Monique. Houston is the 4th largest city (on track to become the 3rd), and this booming population translates into 7,000 families on YES Prepís waitlist. YES Prepís student enrollment is estimated to grow from 12,600 to 17,000, between now and 2023.

YES Prep needs a dynamic and diverse Managing Director of Elementary School Program to make our mission a reality in a new and unchartered territory for our organization. When you join the YES Prep team, some of the exciting work will include:

  • Alongside the Chief Program Officer and Chief Schools Officer, lead the vision, program development, and successful launch of YES Prepís first elementary school(s) that will enhance our commitment to students and communities
  • Collaborate intensely with multiple teams across the Home Office to ensure the successful launch of YES Prepís elementary school program including but not limited to: Finance, Operations, Compliance, and Schools Leadership.
  • Design an academic program that meets the academic and socioemotional need of elementary age students that serves to ensure that students are college ready by 6th grade
  • Align all aspects of curriculum, instructional resources, assessment, and teacher development in elementary school programming towards excellent student outcomes in underserved communities for students of color
  • Manage a high performing working group of leaders driving towards the successful launch of excellent student outcomes for elementary school students
  • Manage the resources allocated to elementary school programming with strong stewardship and strategic thought leadership around maximizing resources
  • Provide high stakes recommendations to the Chief Program Officer and Chief Schools Officer regarding changes to our core program in order to best align with an elementary, middle and high school experience

THE MUST HAVES

  • Bachelorís Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
  • Masterís Degree in educational leadership, elementary education, literacy or other relevant course of study
  • 5+ years leading in an elementary school context with excellent results
  • Demonstrated success in program management and implementation within an elementary and 6-12 space
  • Exceptional skills in self-awareness, self-management, and relationship management
